From May 1st to May 7th, 2018, an Erasmus+ mobility project called Story of my life took place in the Cypriot city of Limassol. The organizers tried to teach us, the participants, how to properly support and understand intersectoral cooperation with refugees. Several activities were dedicated to this issue. Through non-formal education, we learned how to communicate effectively, how to conduct intercultural dialogue, and how to incorporate body language. One lecture directly concerned refugees in Cyprus. We had the opportunity to learn how things work with finances, volunteering, and whether there is a possibility for us to get involved. Our trainer wanted us to better understand the issues of human rights and tolerance.
We also developed our communication skills, as we often presented our own ideas and thoughts. These were all experiences necessary for working with diverse multicultural groups and refugees. It was experiential learning, and I personally really enjoyed working in a group with people from foreign countries. It was my first training course, and I certainly hope it won't be my last. I learned a lot of things and met people from several countries with whom I hope to stay in touch. I am also motivated to improve my English, as I see that it is really important for communication.
I would like to encourage YOU not to put off the opportunity to go on such a project and be sure to apply, you won't regret it. Naturally, I cannot speak for all participants in the project, but those I spoke with were all very satisfied, whether with the program, accommodation, or food. I would therefore like to thank the Slovak team for their cooperation and, of course, the Youthfully Yours organization, because everything went smoothly and they showed interest throughout the project to ensure everything was in order.
