About the lives of those who were not so lucky in the lottery of life

When you ask young people about their dreams or plans for the near future, they usually give you a six-point answer. They want to travel, get to know new cultures, meet new people, learn another language, have fun, and expand their opportunities. However, most of these young people are students with a limited budget to realize their dream goals, which, of course, cost a considerable amount of money. Realizing and calculating the amount needed to achieve their plans is often very discouraging, and therefore many give up completely and do not even start looking for cheaper, more accessible, and more innovative ways.

This may be one of the reasons why very few young people know about the Erasmus+ project and the revolutionary experience it offers. I personally consider the Erasmus+ project to be one of the best ideas and investments in young people. They include all six desired points. Young people from all over the European Union with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds spend a few days together full of activities that practice and strengthen their critical thinking, language, and presentation skills in a very pleasant, yet professional way.

The Refugee+ training course was one of these amazing opportunities. The training took place in Agrigento, a sunny and pleasant Sicilian city surrounded by breathtaking historical monuments. People from fourteen countries gathered in one place and built strong bonds during activities, trips, and educational parts of the program. The educational part of the program was packed with information that helped us see more closely and objectively the reality of the refugee crisis in various European states. Visiting a refugee center, which was paradoxically a minute from our hotel, and talking to local authorities about their experiences with refugees in Sicily were unique and unusual opportunities to form a clearer idea about the lives of those who won a lower initial capital in the lottery of life.

Thanks to the well-done work of the organizers and prepared professionals, Refugee++ was truly an unforgettable experience.
