The Counter Radia’lab project is finished!

From June 18th to June 26th, a team of 5 Slovak participants had an amazing opportunity to spend a week in Marrakech, Morocco, on a youth exchange organized by Coconutwork and supported by the Erasmus+ fund.

Participants from 7 countries (Morocco, Slovakia, Turkey, Romania, Poland, Egypt, and France) gathered to discuss radicalization and extremism. Through several workshops, we uncovered the main causes of radicalization and prepared short theatrical sketches where we acted out these causes using the 'Theatre of the Oppressed' method.

We prepared presentations where we mapped out national realities and the Slovak perspective on the topic of radicalization. We also discussed the concept of layers of personality, debated how media influences our perception of reality, and concluded the project by preparing digital campaigns aimed at mitigating the causes of extremism.

In our free time, we had the chance to discover Marrakech and its red houses, markets, and amazing food. We also enjoyed one completely free day during which we went to the coastal town of Essaouira.

Discussing the topic of radicalization is completely different in this environment and with participants from such diverse backgrounds. We engaged in extremely interesting conversations about religions, wars, poverty, injustices, dreams for the future, and privileges. Moreover, we had a lot of fun together.
