Come and Recycle! - final meeting of the first part of the project

The seventh meeting of the Come and Recycle! project was different from the previous six. We concluded the first phase of the project, which focused on RECYCLING, SEPARATION, and ZERO-WASTE, and no lecturer attended. We, the facilitators, led the entire meeting. It was a great experience for us, and we are very grateful for it.

We started the project meeting by revisiting the recent past. In the first point of the agenda, we reiterated the project's idea, its purpose, and its support from the European Solidarity Corps, which is overseen in Slovakia by IUVENTA - the Slovak Youth Institute.

In addition, we recalled each meeting, its lecturer, topic, and most significant points. For participants who could not attend some meetings, we reminded them of our drive, which contains video recordings from each meeting, presentations, photos, and activities.

The second point on the agenda was to complete the questionnaire. The purpose of the questionnaire was for us - the lecturers and project creators - to understand what to improve in the future and to identify our strengths and weaknesses. We will strive to apply all the insights gained from this questionnaire in future meetings and in the implementation of new projects.

Our third agenda item was creative. Participants in teams of 4-5 members were tasked with creating posters related to a specific area of the project. We randomly divided them into Zoom Break-out rooms, gave them access to an account via Canva, which we, of course, quickly explained to them. Canva is a platform, a design studio, where anyone can very easily create anything they can imagine. People can also work in groups, and this platform is available ONLINE, which means it is regularly saved, and no data is lost.

The result is... well, judge for yourselves...

In our opinion, excellent! 🙂

These posters will be sent to our partner schools, where we hope they will be beneficial for their students. We believe that this way we can engage young people and create ideal conditions for them to follow these simple tips and rules even outside of school.

After the posters, the penultimate point of the program followed, during which we informed our participants about activities in the next 2 months. This program consists of the "Earth Day" campaign, where they can participate in various activities, such as cleaning their surroundings of waste or a photo competition to win an excellent book - The Uninhabitable Earth. This campaign also includes educational stories on our Instagram account - @youthfullyyourssk. It will also include the continuation of the project in its phase number 2, in the form of 2 online workshops on the topic of upcycling - meaning we will jointly create things from waste.

In the last point of the program, we prepared a cherry on top for the participants. Even before the meeting, we told them that a mysterious guest would arrive. And they did. Our mysterious guests were themselves. We invited them to talk about what they do for the environment. Whether it's a lifestyle, collecting trash, not eating meat, or participating in similar projects. Many of them revealed a piece of their private lives and inspired us in WHAT THEY DO TO BE MORE ECO-FRIENDLY.

Thank you to all participants who took part in the first part of the project. Many of them attended all meetings and spent the last month and a half with us, every Wednesday, approximately 2 hours of their time from 5:00 PM.

We greatly appreciate the feedback we received from everyone and value the honesty. Especially YOU, our participants, push us forward.

We look forward to seeing you in the second part of the project!

The meetings were primarily attended by young people aged 15 to 19 who attend our partner schools - Gymnázium Park mládeže 5 in Košice, Gymnázium Poštová 9 in Košice, and Gymnázium Konštantínova 2 in Prešov. We are very pleased with their interest, as they were our target group. It is precisely them who will build the future of our planet. And as a bonus, several participants wrote to us that they noticed us through Facebook and our stories on Instagram.

Hereby, we would like to thank the partners of this meeting once again:

Gymnázium Park mládeže 5 in Košice,

Gymnázium Poštová 9 in Košice,

Gymnázium Konštantínova 5 in Prešov.

The education is supported by the European Solidarity Corps program, administered by IUVENTA - the Slovak Youth Institute.
